Meet Your Neighbors
Good day to you, my name is Kevin and I would like to tell you about my family and the neighborhood we live in. I live with my beautiful wife Lisa and our son, Leland. We are originally from Columbia, SC, but we moved here in 2010 to put Bible clubs in public elementary after school programs through the organization known as, Child Evangelism Fellowship. When we met our neighbors, the Phipps, they told us about the house on McQueen st. that was coming available. We loved the house the moment we saw it. It looked like the type of house that a family could grow together in. It also had a garden in the front yard that made my wife's heart race.
Our background is a mixed bag of experience. My wife has been a vegetarian for over 19 years, and is very active in creating recipes for an acceptable vegetarian cookbook for the "southern" appetite. She is also very creative when it comes to fashion. She loves to take vintage handkerchiefs and buttons, and turn them into the most adorable hairpieces that would accentuate any outfit. You can find them on Etsy.com if you are interested under Hyde Fashion. My background is in teaching children. I have been a skateboarder for over 30 years, and have been practicing the Martial Arts for 18 years. I received a degree in Exercise Physiology from the College of Charleston and have been in a pursuit of finding the best way to help educate children on seeking a healthy lifestyle. But strangely enough, my hobbies seem to be far removed from career choices. I love to film and edit anything I can. Below, you can see some links to some of the things that I like to create, but beyond that, my heart lies in the most underrated of instruments. It is an instrument of thunder, and has only been mastered by the few that were willing to wield it, but soon I will be in their leagues. That instrument of mass destruction is none other than the........Ukulele. What, you thought I was going to say the guitar? I have a sweet collection of various sized ukuleles. Including a 1920's Martin soprano and my newly acquired Slingerland "Maybell" Banjolele. Some days you will find me walking in the neighborhood strumming away on one of these gems.
The best thing about this neighborhood is the neighbors. We live down the street from some great families, and just about every weekend, we get together at someone's house for "porch night." Everyone brings a dish and some drinks, and we sit out on the porch and tell funny stories while the kids run wild in the house. Some of our best times in Florence have been at "porch night." We have celebrate with fireworks sometimes, only I'm not allowed to use them anymore on account of last 4th of July, but that is another story altogether.....
